Consolers of the Lonely

And so it goes:
the drive to the radio
the meal with the magazine
the Internet and the TV
Me? I'm not alone
You see, each night I split
the sleeping pill
half for me
and half for the
one next to me who
is too tired to sleep
who waits impatiently
who gives me just a few hours
and then when I awaken
heart pounding
lies down and laughs
while I struggle to go back,
back to sleep
back to your kind shoulder
long turned from me.
